Kerala Voluntary Heath Services

Kerala Voluntary Health Services is a non-profit organization registered under the societies Registration Act. It is federated to the Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI), New Delhi.

Since its inception in 1971, it has been striving towards the goal of providing health for the people of Kerala. It is to the credit of Kerala VHS, that it has been able to maintain constant touch with the grass root level health and social development organizations in Kerala all these years. From 1998 on wards KVHS diversified its involvement in other development areas and now we are the official NGO consultant of many govt. development projects. Kerala VHS has been inconstant touch with the govt. in the formulation of health policies as well as other development intervention. In 1998, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare appointed Kerala VHS as the Mother NGO to implement Reproductive and Child Health Programmesin Kerala.

Subsequently we were appointed as the supportive NGO of the support to Gender Issue Projects, Awareness Generation programme on PNDT Act 1994 and IEC programme on Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. In 2004 KeralaVHS become one of the official consultant of Government’s infrastructure development programme ie Kerala state transport project. After one year Government requested us to be to join part of the rural water supply and sanitation programme. The year 2005 we dedicated ourselves to Rehabilitation of costal life which was devastated by Tsunami disaster in collaboration with VHAI New Delhi and ICCO Netherlnd. We put forward the concept of school based health promotion to State’s school settings in 2006. Our initiatives for the reduction of Tobacco use got wide spread appreciation at national and international level. Off course our journey is still continuing.

Kerala VHS is formed by its member organizations – Charitable Hospitals, health & social developmental organizations and individual members who have significant contributions in the field of Health and Social development. Kerala VHS is managed by a Governing Board, which is elected by the General Body at its Annual Meeting.
